Innovation in green energy batteries
Explosive Growth in Battery Demand
Graphite consumption for lithium-ion batteries has increased by about 200% since 2019, far outpacing growth in traditional uses. In 2024, nearly 50%* of all global graphite was consumed in lithium-ion battery applications, marking a dramatic shift in the market. Graphite is the indispensable in current battery chemistry making up 90% of the anode in a lithium-ion battery. International Graphite's goal is the production and supply of active anode materials using graphite sourced from our 100% owned Springdale mine, in Western Australia.

Electric Vehicle Uptake
One dominant driver for growing graphite demand is the rapid uptake of electric vehicles. Global EV sales have been increasing at double-digit rates, and each EV requires approximately one kilogram of graphite for every kWh of energy in its battery pack, or about 70 kilograms of graphite per vehicle.

Flexible Graphite and Nanostructured Materials
These are expected to be some of the fastest-growing markets for graphite. Atom-thin graphene is the thinnest, strongest and most conductive material in the world. Flexible graphite is used in applications requiring high-performance sealing and EMI shielding. Graphite nanoplatelets and related products are increasing being used in advanced composites, conductive coatings, and energy storage devices, such as ultracapacitors. Together they are making breakthroughs possible in defence, aerospace and biomedical devices and supporting the efficiency of AI and supercomputing.
